Paul McCartney mended his friendship with John Lennon by talking about domestic matters. In an audio series, McCartney reveals that their bond was strained after the breakup of The Beatles, but improved when Lennon became a father for the second time in 1975.

In the series Words + Music: The Man on the Run, McCartney provides new details about his friendship with Lennon following the breakup of The Beatles in 1970. He explains that for a long time, he was just snapping on the phone with his former bandmate.

That changed when Lennon became a father to son Sean and the two were able to talk about parenthood and family life together.

During these conversations, they discovered they shared a hobby. They had both started baking their own bread. “The things we had in common were just everyday, small domestic things.

That felt peaceful. It was nice that we had that together. And we didn’t argue anymore.” According to McCartney, being able to repair their relationship was “the only consolation” after Lennon’s murder in 1980. “I thought: thank God we made up.

I don’t know what I would have thought if that hadn’t been the case and we were still fighting.”

The Man on the Run is a project about the English singer and musician. It combines interviews with McCartney conducted over a period of three years.

It is a sequel to the documentary about him that appeared on Prime Video last month. He was interviewed for it by Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville.
