Olivia Dean was the big star at the Brit Awards in Manchester on Saturday night. The British singer took home four awards.
Dean took to the stage as the winner at the first award ceremony of the evening. She and Sam Fender won the Brit Award for Best Song for their song “Rein Me In.”
Dean then also won the awards for Best Pop Act, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. She received the latter award for her album “The Art of Loving.”
Dean accepted the awards emotionally and addressed her family. “You need a lot of people to be a good artist. And I realize I have good people around me. Thank you, I love you.”
The award for Best International Artist went to Spanish singer Rosalía. She beat out Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan, among others, in that category.
Lola Young received the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and Wolf Alice was honored for Group of the Year. Sam Fender won two Brit Awards: in addition to Song of the Year, he also took the stage for Best Alternative/Rock Act.
The late rock musician Ozzy Osbourne was honored during the awards show. The Black Sabbath singer’s widow, Sharon, and his doctor, Kelly, accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award for him. “Thank you for loving my father as much as I did,” Kelly said.
Mark Ronson also received a lifetime achievement award, the Outstanding Contribution, for his influence on contemporary music. At the ceremony, the producer, musician, and DJ honored the late Amy Winehouse, with whom he wrote the song “Back to Black” twenty years ago.
Ronson said that Winehouse song changed his life “forever.” Ronson also co-wrote other Winehouse songs.
