Jane Schneck, the mother of the late singer Aaron Carter, has accused his ex-fiancée Melanie Martin of theft, US media reported Thursday, citing court documents.

According to Schneck, Martin withdrew more than $24,000 (approximately €20,000) from Carter’s accounts two days after his death.

Martin also allegedly started a website selling merchandise bearing his name and likeness.

Martin denies the allegations. She claims Schneck is not well-informed about Carter’s financial situation.

She claims she had joint accounts with the singer and that he had previously given her permission for business activities under his name.

Legal proceedings have been ongoing between Martin and Schneck for some time. These cases revolve, among other things, around who will have control over Carter’s assets and the rights to his name, partly with an eye on the financial future of Prince, Martin and Carter’s son.

Carter, like his brother and Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, became popular in the 1990s. His debut album, featuring the single “Crush On You,” was released in 1997. He subsequently released three more albums and several singles, including the hit “I Want Candy” in 2000.

He also appeared in television series and films.

Carter died in 2022 at the age of 34. He drowned in a bathtub after using drugs.
