The BBC will be making significant cuts in the coming years. The British public broadcaster announced on Thursday that it will reduce costs by approximately 10 percent over the next three years.

This amounts to hundreds of millions of euros in just a few years. BBC Director General Tim Davie, who will be leaving the broadcaster in April, briefed staff on Thursday.

“In a rapidly changing media market, we continue to face significant financial pressure,” the broadcaster quotes a spokesperson as saying.

“Therefore, we expect to save approximately another 10 percent of our costs over the next three years.”

A precise amount is not being disclosed, but it is expected to be in the hundreds of millions of pounds.

BBC News reports that expenditure last year exceeded 4 billion pounds (approximately €4.6 billion).

It is not yet known which programs or services will be affected by the cuts.
