Britney Spears has sold the rights to her music to music publisher Primary Wave. According to the BBC, the singer received over €168 million for her repertoire.

Spears has released nine studio albums during her career. Her best-known songs include “Toxic,” “Gimme More,” “…Baby One More Time,” “Oops!… I Did It Again,” and “Womanizer.”

The sale follows turbulent years for the singer. In 2021, she ended a thirteen-year conservatorship, during which her finances and personal life were overseen by her father.

In 2023, she released her memoir “The Woman in Me,” in which she describes her traumatic childhood in the spotlight.

In January 2024, Spears announced that she never wants to return to the music industry. Her final song was a duet with Elton John, released in 2022.

In recent years, artists like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Justin Bieber, Shakira, and Phil Collins have also sold their music rights.

They may have done so to receive a large lump sum and avoid remaining dependent on future, uncertain royalty income.
