Tekashi 6ix9ine has turned himself in to New York police to begin his prison sentence. The American rapper will serve three months in jail for violating his probation by failing to submit to drug tests.

In 2019, Tekashi 6ix9ine was sentenced to two years in prison for, among other things, possession of a prohibited weapon and participating in a criminal organization. The 29-year-old rapper initially pleaded not guilty in that case.

When it became clear he was facing a prison sentence of 32 years to life, he struck a deal with prosecutors.

Part of the deal was that the artist confessed to ordering the shooting of a rival gang member. In exchange for this confession, he received a prison sentence of approximately two years. He was also ordered to remain under judicial supervision for five years.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, the rapper is currently being held in the same prison as Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

6ix9ine broke through in 2017 with the songs “GUMMO” and “Kooda.” He’s known for his facial tattoos and striking hairstyle.
